Love Theresa or hate her, Lindsay just knocked the material out of the park. This was one of those rare times where Lindsay was given fantastic material, and she went and made it her own. I’ve always felt that Lindsay should have been in contention for an Emmy, from Theresa giving Jane, the subsequent Blue Note scene, her rape, but Theresa’s goodbye to Ethan was just heartbreaking. However, Lindsay is a victim of the stigma of the soap who employs her. Not to be outdone, Eric held his own as Ethan in this turning point of their story despite not having as many lines as Lindsay. He didn’t need the words. His facial expressions said it all for me, and that’s what made this scene so powerful. Eric and Lindsay were absolutely phenomenal in this scene, and I will give the writers credit for what I feel could be the best scene written in Passions history.

We’ve come to the end of a story: Theresa’s pursuit of Ethan. It’s far from the end of Theresa/Ethan/Gwen, but one chapter of it has come to a close. It was something that I saw coming, yet it was very necessary to the progression of the overall TEG storyline. Theresa had reached the end of her rope. She failed at proving that Gwen sent the tabloid, but she had one chance left to win Ethan back: Little Ethan’s true paternity. She was more than ready to tell him about it, only to be blindsided by Ethan’s advice to a college friend. She had a very difficult decision, give up Ethan or risk losing another child to Gwen....

…Which finally leads me to the goodbye scene. It was a very gut-wrenching scene. Ethan was genuinely scared of what she had to say, and Theresa was scared to say it. When she dropped the bombshell that she realized that they were never going to be together, instead of the relief one would expect Ethan to feel, he was devastated. For so long he had been telling her to move on with someone else, but now that Theresa was finally doing what he wanted his heart broke with her. There was nothing that he could say to her. There was nothing he could do for her. Seeing Theresa push him away from her was absolutely heartbreaking, yet it truly meant her end. Normally, when Theresa was angry, all Ethan had to do was just take her in his arms and tell her that he loved her to calm her down, but not even Theresa could withstand that. She had to push him away from her or else she’d lose the strength she had to say goodbye. Of course, it hurt Ethan to see her push him away as well. It hurt even more that he was powerless; powerless to ease her pain, and powerless to take that leap of faith that Theresa wanted him to. Even with Ethan’s replies of, “You really mean what you say” or “I never thought I’d hear you say that”, it was obvious that Ethan was hurting inside. It was one thing to tell her to move on, but to actually see her do it. It was too much for him to handle, and the desperation in his voice came through. The tears came down his face. As much as Theresa’s lost, Ethan lost too. He lost his chance at happiness. He lost his chance to be free. He lost his chance of a love that completed him.

Theresa was right. This is a turning point in their lives. With Theresa bowing out of the picture and moving on to someone else, Ethan will be the one who can’t keep his heart locked away. His dreams of Theresa will continue to haunt him at night. His thoughts of what could have been will eat at his soul. Seeing Theresa with another man will torment him, until he has to win Theresa back. This is a chapter, I cannot wait to see unfold.

First Post!

Howdy!
